Transportation information

Cluj‑Napoca is well connected and easy to navigate, making travel to and around the city convenient for conference participants.

By Air

The city is served by Avram Iancu International Airport (CLJ), located about 9 km (5.5 mi) from the city center. You can find flight schedules, airline information, and passenger services on the official airport website: Avram Iancu Cluj International Airport, Flights, Services.

From the airport, you can reach the city by:

  • Taxi or ride‑sharing services (~15–20 min)
  • Airport shuttle buses that connect to central locations
  • Car rental services on site

Trains & Buses

Cluj‑Napoca’s central train station is well connected to major Romanian cities like Bucharest, Timișoara, and Brașov. The regional bus network also offers frequent services to different parts of the city.

Taxis

Traditional taxis can be called by phone or booked through local apps — a reliable option for getting around the city or reaching your hotel.

Some of the main taxi companies with call‑in service include:

  • Daniel Taxi – Local taxi service (+40 264 947)
  • Diesel Taxi – Local taxi service (+40 264 946)
  • Star Taxi – mobile app

These companies typically offer phone reservations, and while some drivers may accept card payments, cash is the most widely accepted method. Many also participate in taxi-ordering apps that make it easy to request a car quickly.

Ride‑Hailing Apps

In addition to traditional taxis, ride‑hailing apps are widely used in Cluj‑Napoca:

  • Bolt — Request rides quickly with the Bolt app from your smartphone.
  • Uber — You can request UberX rides 24/7 through the Uber app, with upfront pricing and in‑app safety features.

These apps can be especially useful for airport transfers or short city trips. Note that availability and pricing can vary with demand, so having both Bolt and Uber installed is often recommended.

Local Transport

Getting around the city is simple:

  • Public transport: Frequent buses, trams, and trolleybuses serve most areas.
  • Taxis & ride‑hailing: Convenient for short trips or luggage‑heavy travel.
  • Walking & cycling: The city centre is compact and pedestrian‑friendly.

Currency

The official currency in Romania is the Romanian Leu (RON). Cash is widely used for taxis, small purchases, and local markets, while credit and debit cards are accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops.

Tips for visitors:

  • Carry some cash in RON for taxis, public transport, or smaller vendors
  • ATMs are widely available throughout the city
  • Exchange offices are available at the airport and in the city center
  • Major cards like Visa and Mastercard are commonly accepted, but some taxi rides may not accept card payments

We recommend planning your routes ahead of time and allowing extra travel time during peak hours or busy conference arrival/departure times.
